Entourage 2004 Received Mail Time Incorrect??

P

Price, Noel

Anyone have a fix for this...

I have a a bunch of users using Entourage 2004 with Exchange and have had a
problem where the time listed in the Mail window is ahead an hour yet all
the time, and time zone settings are correct. I think this is a known issue
does anyone have a fix for this?

Are they viewing messages with Preview Pane at Right (the new 2004 default),
or Preview Pane Below (like the older Entourage X view)?

If Preview Pane at Right, then note that the time displayed in the message
list (middle pane) is time Sent (converted to local time), even if the
Sorting is by Received. If Preview Pane Below, then you can view both Sent
and Received columns and see for yourself.

Otherwise, the "known issue" is usually referred to as "user error". Make
sure that the users check both Entourage/Preferences/Calendar/Time Zone and
System Preferences/Date & Time/Time Zone and make sure that both settings
are identical, then relaunch Entourage. If they're in that weird bit of
Eastern Indiana which doesn't follow daylight savings, make sure that is
chosen (it's at the bottom of the list). Maybe their time is wrong, set it
right by the Network Clock in Date & Time settings.

Oh, wait a minute. You did say you were all on Exchange. Yes that may be
known issue. If the Exchange server is in a different time zone, calendar
events have the time of the server's time zone. (You could individually
change these events' time zones to get it right, but it's a big bother.) So
probably invitations from people on Exchange might have the same issue
(though I've not heard of this wrinkle before). Generally speaking, no, it
should not affect received mail messages, so far as I know. Perhaps there's
a wrong setting on the Exchange server.

I have read of other people having this same issue. The time on the server
is correct, and the the time on the users computers is correct as well.
Those were the first things checked.

When an email is viewed in either Preview Pane, the ³Received² Time is off
by an hour. However, if the email is opened into its own window, and/or view
the full header of the email the time is correct. The ³Received² time error
also shows up wrong to those that I send the email to within the company.
Both PC and Mac.

So somewhere there is an bug causing the time to display incorrectly.

I have read of other people having this same issue. The time on the server is
correct, and the the time on the users computers is correct as well. Those
were the first things checked.

When an email is viewed in either Preview Pane, the ³Received² Time is off by
an hour. However, if the email is opened into its own window, and/or view the
full header of the email the time is correct.
But the "Date" header in the open message in its window shows the Sent time,
not the Received time. If you look at all the headers in View/Source, you'll
often see as many as 4 Received headers as received by different servers
along the way: the top one is the time your server received it. (If the
message is from another person on the same exchange server, there might only
be one or two Received headers.) Again the Date header is the Sent time.
Meanwhile the "Received" time in Entourage has nothing to do with the
Received headers: it's the time that Entourage the application
downloaded it to its own local cache. If Entourage was closed when the
Exchange server received the message, there could be a huge disparity
hours, days between what Entourage reports as "Received" and what the
server does.

If you expect to see the time as shown in the Date header of the opened
message, then what you really want is to show Sent time, not Received time.
Check Preview Pane at Right and display the Sent header. That should be
showing the correct sent time. (If the message was sent by a colleague in
the same company, and Entourage is open, not closed, then the Received time
should only be a couple of minutes later at the most, maybe just seconds.)
The ³Received² time error also shows up wrong to those that I send the email
to within the company. Both PC and Mac.

So somewhere there is an bug causing the time to display incorrectly.

Now are you saying that when you receive a message, it often show 1 hour
in the future? Then maybe the Exchange server isn't set up correctly for
Daylight Savings Time conversion, or something like that.

We've just begun moving Macs to Entourage / Exchange 2003 and are seein
the same issue - but only on same Macs, and only with some recipients.

So far, it seems to only affect iBooks and PowerBooks - do you see thi
on desktops as well?

There is no commone thread, sans the move to Entourage.

ALL SETTINGS ON THE MACS ARE CORRECT! Sorry, but the obvious has bee
asked and checked ad-nauseum.

Any help here is greatly appreciated.

It's one desktop Macs too.

The servers are correct.
The Macs are all set correctly - and there's no "Daylight savings" settings
in OS X or Entourage.

I can send from Outlook 2001 on the same Macs and it's fine.

Entourage seems to be the culprit.

I just noticed that I was having this same problem and went searching
for a solution, when I ran across this thread.
I am on an eMac at home.
I recently upgraded to Tiger and am running Entourage 2004.
All of my messages show a received time +1 hour.
I am no computer genius but I first checked my system clock and then my
Entourage time zone; they are both correct.
I think that the program (Entourage 2004) doesn't account for daylight
savings time!
I only recently noticed this problem and I upgraded before the time
change.

Am I missing something?

Viva,

We had this issue recently with our Exchange servers, but we now don't know
if the change back from daylight savings time fixed it , or something else.
I don't think you're on an Exchange server (or are you?) so my situation is
not likely the same as yours.

Hi Everyone,

I'd just like to add that we are also experiencing this same problem.
Exchange 2003 and Entourage 2004. Very annoying for all of our PC users when
any e-mail sent from a Mac arrives one hour into the future.

I am also very willing to help MS to resolve this issue. I've seen another
thread that suggests applying SP2 to Exchange 2003 but we are unable to do
that because of Blackberry Enterprise Server.

Any further suggestions appreciated,
BP

BP,

We have a front-end or "cluster" server and a backend server. We moved our
client's email boxes to the back-end server and back again, which for now,
seems to have "fixed" this.
The admin's could not apply SP2 to the server as it causes issues with
Blackberry Enterprise Server.

I would ask them to move your mailboxes 0 if you have another server, just
to see if this helps.
Our admin's say that nothing else was done, and that the hotfix was not
applied.

May be worth a shot.
