hi suddenly my entourage 2004 is running very slowly. it can take a
full minute to switch from email to address book and several seconds to
switch to calendar.

it also seems to pause, with the hard disk spinning for up to a minute
ata go, a dozen times a day. when that happens, it simply freezes until
i hear the hard drive stop spinning.

i do have a LOT of messages. what's the problem? what can i do? thanks

I actually had the same issue. I went looking around my Calendar and
found there was an event that was duplicated 20,000 times. I am not
sure how it happened ( I sync with a T5) but I deleted all occurances
and it has helped ( it is not speedy by anymeans but faster).

That's the problem. It isn't the number of messages, probably; it's the
number of messages in one folder. Try dividing your messages up into
folders such that there aren't all that many in any one folder - not
more than, say, 200 or so. Now quit Entourage and verify and compact the
database. See if that helps. m.

thanks, but i suspect it's some sort of autoupdate or auto indexing
that goes on in background and when the data file gets too big it slows
everything down,.,..

The only background process, other than notifications, is the Entourage
database daemon that does scan your email database for problems.

You can test this launching Entourage while holding down the Option key.
This will display the Database Utility. Select "Set database
preferences", click Continue and then deselect the option to perform the
database integrity check.

If you find that this is not your problem, be sure to reactivate the
integrity checker.

Hope this helps! bill
