Entourage 2004 speed

Has anyone else noticed the signifciant reduction in speed at viewing and
opening HTML messages in the preview pane of Entourage 2004 vs. earlier
versions ? This occurs even after compacting the database to the point of
being very annoying.

Yes. Even on one of "the world's fastest computers" (G5 2Ghz, 1.5 gigs
of RAM), Entourage 2004 can be slower than 2001. You'll see many posts
on this slowness, and I'd guess that it's why not many of us are
recommending it to our friends/associates, so my guess is that they
are working on a fix/upgrade.

I'm looking forward to a book on 2004 that can teach me the
intricacies of using the new Project Center. I've yet to figure it
out, and use it in the way it's probably capable of being used.

Actually, I find it about two degrees faster (10 to 100 times faster) than
Entourage X on my G5. The most amazing differences in speed are in searching
(Advanced Find) and simply in responsiveness. Back in X, as soon as any
particular folder got to about 1500 messages, selecting and opening messages
for reply, etc. slowed to molasses. In 2004, I forget to ever clean out my
folders of mailing list mail - they get upwards of 10,000 messages without
ever losing any speed.

If you have a project set up on an iDisk, your computer is constantly
syncing to it. Same if you have Exchange or IMAP accounts with LiveSync
enabled. Problematic internet connections (logjams) could be causing the
slowness you're seeing.

PLEASE always state which version of Microsoft Office you are using -

This may have to do with the change in the HTML rendering engine that
Entourage uses.
