I use an older Mac now running Leopard. Suddenly in the midst of working when I clicked send/receive error message "invalid username or password." Nothing I tried works. (Can still send messages.)
Never mind, Cox (provider) gave me a clue: name of account should not include @cox.net. I checked, fixed, and it now works--after hours of struggle and hairpulling.
