Just upgraded form Entourage 2004 to 2008. It worked fine for a couple of days and now it is crashing upon launch. It gives a "sorry for the inconvenience" notice.

I verified permissions, repaired the disc and still find "ACL unexpected found in ... (a large number of applications and files)"

What is wrong and what can I do? Is it time to switch to iWork?

ACLs are Apple permissions. How did you install Leopard? If you used the
Update method, this could be the source of your problems.

There are 3 types of installs:

1. Upgrade Mac OS X (the default upgrade method)*
2. Archive and Install
3. Erase and Install

* Just because it's the default doesn't mean it's the best option.

This page describes what each method does:

Options to Install Leopard
What is wrong and what can I do? Is it time to switch to iWork?

That is not going to solve your problems when it's based on permissions.

Test in a new User. Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in
Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User
Switching. Test Office there.

1) Boot to the Leopard install disk and from the Utilities menu select a
user account that needs its ACL's reset.
2) Then select the reset option at the bottom.
3) It is done when there is a faded Done button at the bottom and you can
select the hard drive and user name again and the reset button is available
again.
4) This only resets the top levels of the user directories but you should
be able to use the Get Info window to complete the changes by choosing to
apply to enclosed items.

In addition, you could try applying the Apple combo updater to see if it
will help. It certainly doesn't hurt anything. Restart and run Repair
Permissions after applying combo.
