Entourage 2008 first observations

Received and installed Office 2008 today.

Three quick things to share:
* Conversion time of my 1.5GB database file was about an hour. New and old
files are same size.
* Entourage has already locked up.
* Calendar only shows about 8 hours per column/day. I need to see 12-14
hours to get a quick overview of any day. If there's a pref then I have not
found it.
* The interface is very attractive. First Microsoft product to come remotely
close to the pleasing aesthetic of OS X. WTG MS!

More:
* The email send/receive sound notifications seem to come and go. Mostly go.
* The database conversion time was based on a 1.5GB file on a MacBook Pro
Intel Core 2 Duo with plenty of RAM and HD space.
* Overall speed seems quick but not fast. Maybe slightly more efficient on
this Intel Mac than Entourage 2004 was. Certainly not the perf boost one
would expect for native code.
* List item counts are still wrong. When you click on headers to select all
the files then the header is also counted as an item. For example, you can
have 17 items in a list but click the header and it¹ll say 18 items are
selected. This problem is also in 2004.

My concern about Entourage 2008 is synching with my Palm Treo. Does 2008
come with the Palm conduits or does it completely rely on Sync Services? If
the latter, I'm out because I rely so much on recurrent tasks which iCal does
not support.
Thanks for any info on this.

This is totally off subject but I just wanted to say that I was a Palm Treo
user for about four years, up until six months ago when my company got me an
iPhone. I was skeptical at first because it "looked" like eye candy. But
now I can say that it is the best enterprise device I have come across. The
emails work wonderfully and the sync with both iCal and Entourage is
seamless.

Having said that, it does lack a Tasks/ToDo function which I find very
strange. There is an interesting workaround that works with the new iCal:
you can drag To-Do's from the To-Do list onto the calendar, and it converts
the To-Do into an Appointment, with time frame and default alert.
Personally, I like to order my day that way by dragging the tasks into my
open time slots. Those will then transfer automatically to the iPhone.

On another note, I'm developing a Task Manager for the iPhone. It will also
work with other devices. It will be like nothing anyone has ever seen.

comments helpful.

Just silence. Plus there's only one set to choose from in preferences, and it does not work.

Have the same exact problem. No alert sounds what so ever. One set and its
called default its ON but it doesn't work. HELP!
This began when I upgraded from Mac Office 2004 to Mac Office 2008. Sounds
in Entourage 2008 not working. Please help.

Still no response.. I¹m stunned how microsoft can be so insensitive.. There
are a lot of people complaining about the sound alerts.. We (most of us have
Mac Os Leopard 10.5.1) and upgraded to Mac Office 2008 and the sound alerts
in entourage NOT WORKING!! Some help please or probably an update coming
soon?? (so microsoft full of errors) also rules are still not working in
entourage 2008!!

Alerts works fine for me in Leopard. I have heard of other users complaining
of no sounds in other application after upgrading to Leopard.

Test in a new User to see if the problem exists there. Let me know what you
find.

Same for me.
Sound not working in Entourage 2008.
I am using Leopard 10.5.1.
Tried to switch identities: no result!
Tried to remove and reinstall: no result!
Really a disappointing issue!

Hey folks,

We're currently looking into this. It appears that sounds do not always
play on Leopard (but are fine on Tiger). Of course, once we get to the
bottom of this, it's an issue we'd fix in an update.

All of the other applications sounds work well. Just entourage 2008 is not
working. I've tried as a new user still no sound..
