Entourage 2008 hangs checking mail (POP/IMAP)

Greetings,

In a regular basis Entourage hangs checking mail after pulling 1..2..3
messages (sometimes a bit more). Firstly I believed that the problem was
connected to the fact that I had a few hundred messages in the IMAP folders
and it could time synchronizing them, so, I deleted the Imap account I move
to POP. The symptom remained "popping" those messages took time and had to be
done restartinf Entourage a few times (as it hanged from time to time). Even
though it doesn't concern this thread ...all my meeting requests were
duplicated in the Calendar (since they were connect to diferent mail accounts,
which is unfortunately...logic).

Done my Google homework and ended up in pages that mentioned verifying,
reparing and rebuilding the information store ... which I done, ended up in
some other pages that refer the possibility of links to projects that could
have "problems", also checked and I have only 2 projects with very few (3)
mail addresses connected to them. Some other pages mentioned that I could
mess with the MTU (should I?), and others with "Start all over again". So I
came to you, trying to discuss some new ideas or procedures that I could
follow.

When you have multiple things like different accounts, the best option to
troubleshoot is to eliminate. Testing in a new setting for Identity and User
will help know where to look.

1) Creaet a new Identity and enter account info. Does it work there? If yes,
then it's your database, if no then... Go to 2
2) create a new User in System Preferences, open Entourage in a new Identity
and test. If it works, then drag your Identity to Shared so you can test it
in the new User. If it works then you know it's something in your User's
folder. If it doesn't work then it's your OS files.

The rub here is your Accounts and messages. If everything is POP now, you
shouldn't be hit with downloading unless there is a bad message on your
server.

Tip: remember to set "leave on server" when testing.

You can try rebuilding. Make a duplicate first.

Next option if that does not work is to export data, delete it and import
back in to the same Identity.

If that does not work you will need to create a new Identity and import into
that one.
