Entourage 9/Exchange problem

Hi,

We have a MAC user, who is currently having problems sending mail. He
is however receiving mail.

Background....

Previously he was able to receive e-mail when he was using Entourage 9
on Exchange 5.5/Windows NT4

Since the Exchange server was changed to Exchange 5.5/Windows 2000.
The MAC user is no longer able to send mail (SMTP). They are however
able to receive mail.

The configuration is as follows:-

Account Settings:
Include this a/c in send & receive all schedule is checked
Personal Information Name/E-mail Address is entered

Receiving mail account ID, POP server and password are entered. Save
password is checked.
Advanced receiving options: none are checked

Sending mail SMTP server is entered
Advanced sending options; SMTP server requires authentication is
checked and use same settings as incoming mail server is checked

The error message is:

Error: Mail could not be sent using the account '.....'
Explanation: A connection failure has occurred

Hi Becky,

Since the Exchange server was changed to Exchange 5.5/Windows 2000.
The MAC user is no longer able to send mail (SMTP). They are however
able to receive mail.

This really looks to me like some modifications to the SMTP on the
Exchange server have been made. Since Windows clients use MAPI instead,
these alteration often go unoticed.
I would check that SMTP is indeed enabled on the server and then I would
make sure the settings haven't changed (like enabling SSL...).
