Entourage acts as though it is being started for the first time

When I started Entourage (v11.2.1) this morning, it acted as though it
had never been started before and the set up assistant ran.

Any suggestions for recovering? I have tried rebuilding the data base,
to no effect.

If necessary, I can fall back to a back up (though it's probably a week
or more out of date). If I have to do that, what should I copy from the
back up?

Thanks in advance.

Try choosing "Switch Identity" from the Entourage menu. See if your main
identity is listed there.

If it doesn't show up, check to see if your virus checking programme has
quarantined the database because it thinks it found a virus in there.

I had exactly the same problem with v11.2.1 yesterday also. The
suggestions don't work and I appear to have lost everything. I had been
using .Mac (trial membership) last thing the previous day to attempt
partial backup (but not enough space, and I didn't complete) and also
to sync with my PowerBook. Any suggestions about recovery, and also,
very importantly, about what went wrong so I can avoid in future. Using
OS X 10.4.2 on the affected computer.
