Entourage address book corruption

L

Lorene Romero

I am using Entourage 2008 v12.1.0. I have tried updating both by the updater
and directly from the site but when I try it says I do not have the
application.

My real issue is I have at least one corrupt address in my address book
(white with no information) when I test it says there is an issue but when I
try to rebuilt it just hands up and will not let me finish.

When I save the report this is all it says... I do not know what it means

======================
Starting Scan
====================

ERROR: Corruption detected on index [CTRC:1]
======================
Scan Ended
====================

Is there a way to find out what the corrupt email information is and delete
it? How do we rebuild when it? Also, because of the corruption, I am unable
to synch with Apple Address book to see which address is bad.

Thank you for any assistance-Lorene Romero

12.1.1 updater woes- a version of the software required not found

In case the above link does not work:

1) Make a duplicate of your Identity in the Finder.
2) Export as Entourage archive (.rge) just your contacts and select to
delete.
3) import the .rge file back into Entourage

You might have to start a new Identity if this does not work. Often newly
imported Entourage 2008 Identities are problematic, but once you move to a
new Identity they are rock solid.

I will give it a try in a few days after I return home to back up. Thank you

This is a different issue.

Hopefully, if you manage to update Office the rebuild will then work, if
not you will have to start a new Identity and try and move the info you
need over from you old identity.

Using 'export' in the old identity would certainly be the easiest
method, but with a corrupt database it is likely to fail. You will have
to drag messages to a desktop folder (drag in batches of no more than
200 - the Finder used to barf on more than that and some wouldn't be
copied). Switch to the new identity and drag them back in. Do the same
for contacts etc.

Anything in an IMAP or Exchange account doesn't need to go through this
- that stuff is stored on the server and will be synced across when you
enter the account details in the new identity.

Good Luck :)

So we think this will preserve all my email messages?

How does this clean up the corruption in the address book? Just curious
about the process.

Thanks for your help Diane -Lorene

When you erase the data, then write it back it might clear up the
corruption. If not, you will have to migrate to a new Identity and having
the exported data is your first start. Since it's not a time consuming
process, it's easy to try.
