Entourage and Exchange / Calendar

B

Bill Dennen

Hi there-

I've finally gotten Entourage to synch with my Exchange calendar.

However, in order to get it working, I had to set my "E-mail Address"
to:

[email protected]

If I set this to my actual email address ([email protected]), it
does not work. This email address is listed as an SMTP address on the
Exchange server. Actually, both are listed, but this one is my
default.

Any ideas as to why this might not be working with my "proper" email?

Thanks-
Bill

I had the same problem. I also had to use the user name on the exchange
server and not the alias used on our main server.

I could not find any workaround (and I'm not so sure there is one). I
also tried to add a "reply to" header to my e-mails so that people would
reply to the better looking "[email protected]" instead of
"[email protected]" but so far I failed to have it working.

Hi Corentin-

I found that it works fine if I set up with my username. If I let it
sync entirely (a long process, with no visible indication of what's
going on), I can then change the email address to my alias. It seems
to continue functioning.

Weird. Have you tried this?

Thanks for posting this. I have been unable to figure out why my calendar
would not sync -- this fixed it. Of course, it looks like I have to live
with a stupid looking login id in the from column. (Bill's suggestion did
not work for me.) This seems like something Microsoft should fix. You can
actually change all this info for mail only, but when you add the calendar,
the problem appears.

Here is one possible work around. While we wait (again) for this to be
fixed, configure the Apple Mail Ap to get imap mail from the exchange
server. You can send mail using the mail ap and put whatever name and reply
address you want in the header.

I thought of a work around. Set up a separate IMAP mail account, configure
it however you want, and leave the exchange email config alone. You have
two sets of the same mail box on the machine, but at least you can change
the way your name and address are handled.

Yeah, but it didn't work for me.
Actually my identity was frist set to use the username and then I got
the alias and I wanted to change it in the account to have a nicer reply
to address. Thant when my trouble begun :-\ The database was already
synched up.

Yeah, I have alternate options. Actually I already setup Eudora to use
IMAP for this account but I wanted to keep it all in one app for this
account. Eudora (or Mail or any other IMAP app) cannot use my calendar
for instance....

It's true but I wanted to have a cleaner way to do that. Setting up
extra headers would have done the trick for me but I know how I am. I'll
always forget to use the proper account to send e-mails (I also have
other POP accounts in this identity in Entourage). Beside that, I like
to have things "simply working the way they should"... ;-))))

It's not so much of a big deal for me as long as I know that I can't use
the alternate address and I have to stick with the username.

I don't have an explanation, but it's still working for me, even
though I set it to use a different email address (not my Exchange
username).

However, this does seem like something MS should fix, or something.
Something seems wrong.

It might be a requirement set on the Exchange server. It'd be nice
though to have the option to use an alternaate reply-to address no
matter what.

I know it's an old thread, but this is still a problem for me, and i'm
hoping Microsoft are reading this and that a fix is posted. Entourage
is requesting access to the web address "/exchange/username" to sync
the calendar. It gets the username from the email address that you
enter. i.e. [email protected]

If you have your reply alias set to [email protected] in the
email adress field, it will try and access "/exchange/First_Last"
which doesn't exist.

Can Microsoft just add in a field for us to manually enter this path,
or in my case use the AccountID as the username in the path.

It might not be an issue soon with the new Mac OS X (Panther). Mail
now has (and it works very seamlesly) an exchange account option, and
Address Book is also syncing with my exchange contacts list, and
although iCal doesn't support direct syncing with exchange (yet), I
can add meeting requests (recieved in Mail) from other exchange users
directly to iCal.

Unfortunately there's no way to get around this in Entourage X. You could
ask your admin to change your username to match your e-mail name. The other
option would be to revert to a mail-only account following the instructions
here:
Can Microsoft just add in a field for us to manually enter this path,
or in my case use the AccountID as the username in the path.

You can make that suggestion. In Entourage X, go to Help -> Send Feedback
on Entourage. Otherwise, click on this direct link to enter Mac Product
Feedback:
