Entourage and Exchange (SBS2003)

I currently use a Macbook Pro and use it for work purposes from time
to time. I have been given the ok to get an iMac for my desk for full
time use at work and would like to use Entourage for mail/calendar/
contacts instead of Outlook. I could use Outlook within Parallels if I
must but I had rather use Entourage if possible. My network admin has
no idea how to make the iMac connect to the Exchange server. We have
tried with no luck, he has turned on all the Mac permissions on the
server and I keep getting a Root Certificate error on the Mac. Can
someone please point in the direction of a how to article that will
tell me what I need to do. Thanks in advance!!

Diane: I appreciate your help and knowledge. Got a quick question for you:
can you suggest several ways to increase the speed of Entourage. I have a
very large "database" in my Microsoft user identity (3.3 GB).

Do you have any suggestions? My entourage is running kind of sluggishly. I
have a 2.33 Ghz Mac Book Pro (2GB of RAM) running 10.4.9 and Entourage
11.3.3.

What do you think? Thanks! larry

That¹s not what I would call ³very large². Now if you had one that was 10GB
that would be very large.

For improving performance see:

You can reduce Entourage several ways. See this page for suggestions:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/database/reduce.html>

I want to add this caveat from one of the Entourage developers when the
discussion of removing attachments was raised on the Entourage talk list.

While all the advice about keeping backups is a good one, if you have a
working, stable system I wouldn't be going through and doing anything that
introduces possible problems to the identity.

Examples of things that will start to change things, is removing
attachments, etc. If you need to reduce the size, then they may be good
ideas. If not, don't mess with what works.

Thanks Diane we will try it again but this doesn't address the root
certificate error we get. We have used that how to article before and
get a error saying we need a Root Certificate but we have no idea
which one to use or even how to get it where it needs to be. Do you
know how to address that?

Thanks!
Jay

You need to create a new subject with Root Certificate as the subject so
some of the exchange folks will check out the thread and can offer some
help. Exchange is not my area of expertise. Sorry!

In Entourage, I have two mailboxes. If I want to switch from one to the
other am unable to do so if Word is open. Is there a workaround?

No, I'm afraid not. This is because Word uses data in your Entourage (more
aptly named Office) identity, specifically the Address Book that Word has
access to.

Note that you can have multiple accounts set up in a single Entourage
identity; just go to Tools > Accounts to add additional ones. This way you
don't have to worry about separate contacts/calendar events/tasks/notes,
either.

Diane: hope you had a nice holiday weekend. Got another problem for you...
In the calendar section of Entourage, I have multiple repeating holidays on
different days. For example I have 5 Christmas events on December 23,
5Christmas events on December 24, and 5 more on the 25th. What can I do to
blanket erase all of these wrong holidays (and the duplicates on the correct
days). Thank you in advance. larry

Hi Larry,

It really doesn't benefit anyone else if you bury different questions
under the same thread. If anyone else happens to have similar problems
or questions, chances are they will read the original thread title and
not even see your changed topic down below.

Diane reads this news group anyway. So why not just post new topics
like everyone else does when you have a new question?

Look in the left column under Calendar Views and select ³All Events². This
will allow you to select and delete events.

There is also a script Delete Related Events (Entourage) 1.0
Freeware | Version: 1.0 | Script id: 2440
Author: Paul Berkowitz

This script will delete calendar events based on criteria you select.
