I use a Mac and I am trying to find a hosted Microsoft Exchange Server
applicaiton service provider. All the ASPs I have tried so far seem to
think that Entourage will not work properly with hosted Microsoft
Exchange Server. Is this true? Is Outlook on a PC a much easier and
more complete solutuion?

More complete? Certainly.

Easier? - That's a subjective measurement.

Will it work? - providing they have webDav services turned on there's no
reason why it shouldn't work. If they allow access with Outlook Web Access
then Entourage 2004 will work.

The newest version of Entourage works much more seamlessly than
previous versions, and the range of protocols needed to support it have
lessened by half, so it's becoming much easier for hosters to offer it.
There are still some limitations, like you might have to use OWA to
change your password, but it's getting a lot closer. There are also
some deadly bugs you have to worry about; we discovered with Microsoft
that if you move users from one Exchange database to another (a routine
operation for most hosting companies), it's possible for Entourage
users to have all of their mailbox data erased (requiring a restoration
by the hosting company). Microsoft released a patch for this after we
discovered it with them.

FYI, my company provides hosted Exchange (www.mi8.com) and we support
Entourage.

I am waiting for our ASP to install Exchange Server SP2, without which
public folder items don't work properly (they are set to read-only,
regardless of your permission level).

I am also hoping that we will be able to view each others calendars, which
is not working now regardless of view permissions.

The biggest drawback we have found so far is that even with SP2, Entourage
does not create any offline folders (like Outlook) for your Public Folder
items (calendar, files, etc.), so when travelling, we always have to find a
connection to use them.
