Entourage and Palm Pilot HotSync Tungsten T3

I had read many people saying it didn't work, but thanks to Scott's
confidence I have just installed the conduit (after getting rid of a
whole lot of unnecessary conduits in the Library:palm HotSync:Conduits
folder (these I dragged to the "Disabled Conduits" Folder. These
included: Address Conduit, Calendar Conduit, Contacts Conduit,
Datebook Conduit, Memo Conduit, Memos Conduit,Note Pad Conduit, Tasks
Conduit, ToDo Conduit). I replaced all of these with the Microsoft
(Entourage) Conduit. Touch wood it is now working fine,

Michael,
I'm interested in knowing what kind of Palm you're using. Is it a T3?

Terry- I am using a T3 (have just upgraded from a T). At first the T3
froze and after reading a few comments on the net I thought that I
would not be able to use Entourage with the T3, but then, on reading
Scott's comment I gave it another try and noticed all these odd files
in the Conduits folder. Working through these in the manner I describe
below, the T3 now seems to be working without a hitch,
Let me know how you go
Cheers
Michael

Thanks Michael...
I'll give that a shot.

Thanks Michael...
I'll give that a shot.
Well, I tried the work-around twice to no avail. I moved all relevant
conduits to the "Disabled Conduit" folder, leaving only some 3rd party-type
conduits (Life Balance, DocumentsToGo, etc).

I tried syncing with Entourage twice, resulting each time with the process
suddenly quitting with an incomplete sync.

If anyone has any ideas on how to make it all happen, I'll listen.

Thanks,
Terry

Hi everybody..
It's me, Terry, the guy who desperately wants to sync Entourage with his
Tungsten T3.

I've contacted Microsoft...here's what they had to say:
Currently we do have sync tool that is not compatible with Tungsten T3. I am
forwarding your suggestion to Microsoft¹s Feedback and Product Enhancement
team.

I understand that you wish to use Entourage as your PIM but are unable to do
so as it cannot sync with Tungsten T3. I realize your concerns regarding this
and the inconvenience it is causing to you. Regarding your query about when
such a sync tool will come, I would like to inform you that information about
future releases is limited, and the only information anyone at Microsoft could
provide you about future version releases is available on our website in the
section for the product in question.

So...while it's likely that a time will come when said conduit is available,
I fear it may be a good 6-9 month or more before it is.

In the meantime, I really really want to make Entourage my PIM & email
app... So...desperate measures on the drawing board here...Does anyone out
there know if a Pocket PC, through Missing Sync, will sync with Entourage?

Missing Sync for Pocket PC does not work with Entourage. You'd need to get
your data into iSync by some method or another and use Missing Sync from
there. However, that should be changing as Mark/Space have said they are
addressing the incompatibility between Missing Sync and Entourage. I
imaging that when Entourage compatibility is available, it will work with
the products on their supported devices list.

There is another program, PocketMac, that does synchronize a Pocket PC with
Entourage. It's gotten mixed reviews on this newsgroup.

Dear Terry- it's me again, Michael Griffith. I am using my T3 with
Entourage OSX and it is working fine with one exception and that is
Docs to Go tends to lock up the T3. But otherwise all my calendar
items and to dos are going through. I must admit I am not using this
to transfer mail messages between Entourage and T3 yet and am unlikely
to want this facility just yet, but as said everything else is working
fine. Sorry I can't help you more directly, but it CAN be done.... and
I really did very little other than clean out my Conduit folders
making sure only the essential items were there,
Cheers

That's pretty mystifying, 'cause I did the same thing...I took out
everything except the Microsoft conduit...it started to sync, but then would
stop in progress.

I don't know what to tell you...sure wish it would work; I really LIKE some
of the features in Entourage...VERY helpful--for me anyway.

I appreciate your time, though, and I may end up giving it one more college
try...Not real hopeful though.

Thanks,
Terry

Thanks for the info, Mickey...and as I see that the T3 is on their
compatibility list, perhaps in the near future I'll be able to actually sync
Entourage with my Palm?

One can only hope.

Thanks again,
Terry

According to the MVP site:

"Normally, new Palm applications require new conduits to be written.
Unfortunately, in Palm's efforts to ensure that older conduits continue to
work with these new applications, a DATA LOSS bug was introduced that
affects all existing conduits, on both Mac and Windows.

Here is a common scenario:

1. User creates a new contact in Palm Tungsten T3, filling in fields such as
IM name and Birthdate.

2. User synchronizes with Apple's iSync, the version of Palm Desktop on
their website, Microsoft Entourage, or other existing conduits.

3. User makes a change to the contact (such as adding the company name) 4.
User synchronizes again.

5. Data in new fields such as IM name and Birthdate will be lost.

Other possible data loss fields are: calendar categories, homepage, and
more."

See the full text at: <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/palm.html>.

I've had the crashing problem and I think it's related to the bug here. If
you pair down the fields you use it should help. I'd check the
entourage-talk archives for more details.
