Entourage and vCal (.vcs) cards

Steve Green

Hello!

I just started getting calendar events in the form of ".vcs" attachment from
my Windows friends. If I double click, the attachment launches iCal and it
works perfect. However, I am wedded to Entourage, not using iCal at all, and
for the life of me can't figure how to import into the Calendar section of
Entourage.

I am not on any kind of Outlook Server like I see other posts talking
about.

Have tried to drag and drop, import - only works for other mBox of text
files from other programs - and all kinds of other ways to get it in.

I am stumped!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Steve

Well I am totally new to both Apple and Entourage but I did notice that if you have a vCal file on the desktop, right clicking the mouse offers you the option to place the file into Entourage. If there is a better way (like drag and drop which works for Entourage contact vCards) then I too would like to know!

All the methods - contextual menu, double-click, drag in - work for .vcs
and .ics files which represent a _single_ event or task, and which have the
Entpourage file association (if they show iCal icon, do a Get Info/Open With
and set to Entourage. You can also click "Change All" if you wish, but it
won't be useful if you bet multi-event .ics or .vcs files in future.)

Entourage cannot import multi-event .ics or .vcs files, which is
unfortunate, because iCal exports ONLY whole "calendars" - i.e. multi-event
..ics files. However, if you receive an .ics or .vcs file as an attachment in
email, chances are it's a single-event invitation from Mail or Outlook. You
can drag it to your desktop, then change the file association to Entourage
(if it shows as iCal) and drag or context-menu it in to Entourage.

Entourage _can_ import multi-contact .vcf files (multiple vCards) as
exported by Address Book.app, so it's really too bad it doesn't do the same
for multi-.ics and .vcs. You can send a request via Help/Send Feedback. When
Office 2004 is released, I will be able to release a Sync Entourage-iCal
script which will import, export and sync events and tasks to iCal. My
existing Export-Import Entourage X already imports and exports multiple
events and tasks, or whol;e calendars, to and from OPutlook. You can find it

Thanks for the detailed information, and also the help from others who saw
my post.

The easiest, and most effective method for me, was to simply change the
extension to the .ics and require all files with that extension to be opened
by Entourage.

Thanks again!

In that case you must be dealing only with single-item invitations, yes?

Hi i am a real computer novice. with a question about vcal files.
i recieve many invitations to events through evite. i'd like to save these
directly to my entourage OSX 11.1.0 calendar. but if i click on the evite
where it says "save to outlook" a new browser window opens with the evite
info in a text on ly form. the entourage help doesn;t seem to mention this
probably pretty common problem. note i am mandated to use safari browser
or mozilla firefox because of ms explorer security problems.

any help would be much appreciated. thanks - peter green
