Entourage and version of exchange

We run exchange 5.5 and I wonder if upgraded entourage works with that or
just 2000?

According to the download page for the Office X 10.1.4 update, Exchange
Server access through Entourage only works with Exchange Server 2000 SP2 or
higher. Using Exchange Server 5.5 you might be able to access mail by
setting it up as a regular IMAP account, and might be able to access the GAL
as an LDAP server using Tools -> Directory Services (configuring in Tools ->
Accounts / Directory Services), but you would not be able to take advantage
of calendar and contact synchronization, the main new feature in the update.

We're using 5.5 here too. The only thing that works (also in previous
versions) is mail (imap). Accessing the Globale Address List continues to
fail with a message like incorrect logon method.

Still it sucks that Entourage is not able to access Exchange like
Outlook2001 could. And I think I'm speaking for a lot of other users when I
saay that this should be solved quickly. Upgrading to Exchange2000 is not an
option, since most of us can't do that.

And I would like to have an option only to download header info from other
folders, except INBOX. This would reduce download time and save harddisk
space,

So you updated your client OS and software, but won't update the server OS
and software? Do you really think it's reasonable for clients coming out
today to support server software that came out 6 years ago?

Since the e-mail account is just an IMAP account, why don't you just set up
a schedule to do exactly what you want for getting you mail?
Tools:Schedules. There are also some settings on the Options tab of the
account dialog that might be useful: "Always download entire message...,
only in Inbox, LiveSync.
