Entourage as default mail program

Is there a way to set Entourage as the default mail program so clicking
on email addresses in other programs (Word, Safari, etc.) will open an
Entourage email rather than mail? I'm using Entourage 2004 on a
MacBook pro running Mac OS X 10.4.8.

Yes, you can do that within the Preferences section of Mail.app. Open
Mail, click on Mail > Preferences and choose Entourage from the drop
down menu under the "general" heading. Not entirely intuitive, but there
you have it...

Norbert...thanks but it doesn't appear that my version of Mail has a
"general" tab under preferences. When I open preferences, the three
tabs I see are "account information" "mailbox behaviour" and "advanced"
- none of these show a drop-down menu that lets me select Entourage.

My version of Mail is 2.1.1

Am I looking in the wrong place?

Hi,

if you can see the three tabs you mention, you're in the Accounts section of
Mail's preferences. If you can't see a row of icons above these tabs, then
you'll have to click on the small "pill" button in the upper right corner of
the title bar to make the icon row appear. You should now be able to click
on General and set Entourage as your default e-mail client.

There are freeware applications you can use to set preferences:

RCDefaultApp
IC-Switch
More Internet
MISFOX (MIssing Internet Settings for X)
