All of a sudden, all the attachments sent to me from the place I work
are showing up in Entourage as 'application/ms-tnef document'. Obviously
they are mostly .doc files, but I cant find any sensible way of opening
them. Anyone seen this? Any ideas? I've already emailed our computer
services unit to ask them if they've changed anything on the way their
server handles emial attachments...

Thanks,

I've seen this too, from places using some sort of Microsoft mail
server. Anything they send out gets completely corrupted. In at least
one case the server suddenly started doing this out of the blue; it
hadn't done it before.

It's not an Entourage problem - no email program could disentangle the
rubbish the server was spewing out.

Actually, it's not being corrupted, but is instead being converted to a
proprietary format. You need a helper application to extract useable data
from these files. More information and a download link can be found on the
Entourage Help Page.

Well I realise it's being converted to something deliberately, and not
as the result of a malfunction. But in the context of a mail server,
converting outgoing mail into a proprietary format into something
unreadable seems like corruption to me, whether accidental or
deliberate.

Joshua Jacob has developed a great little program that allows users t
recover the original file from a 'application/ms-tnef document'.

The program is called TNEF's Enough and I've used it a few times and i
works very nicely:
