Entourage - back up

S

Stacey Horne

This is a two part question.

1) when doing a daily back up of Entourage. Which file(s) should be back up.
Currently I'm backing up the User/Documents/Microsoft user data

2) When I retreive this folder from back up, do I simply delete existing
folder (Microsoft user data) and replace it with the backed up copy?

1) Your Entourage data is stored inside the MUD folder, in a folder called
Office 2004 Identities (depending on how you've configured your identity,
that folder is called "Main Identity" or has the name which you gave it at
some point). By creating a backup of the MUD folder, you automatically
create a backup of that folder, too, but if you want to be more precise, you
can also backup that specific folder only.

2) Yes. Again, you could also simply overwrite the contents of the Office
2004 Identities folder. Before you do that, however, make sure that none of
the Office applications are running, especially not Entourage.

Hello:
I recently asked Microsoft the same question on backing up. They said to
back up the User/Documents/Microsoft user data/Your user identity (either
it's main or the one you named)/Database
So you are backing up only the database.

You can retreive the database without destroying your identities.
Hope this helps

Hi Nancy,

yes, that's true, but I generally tend to advise people to backup the entire
identity folder, since, in the event of a crash, they might not want to have
to recreate all their rules and signatures. But yes, strictly speaking, the
Entourage data itself is stored in the database file.
