Entourage cannot access your data.

Ok so my computer was going really slow and not having any knowledge on
how to speed it up, I called applecare. They took me through a series
of steps and finally after all else failed, they told me to do a clean
erase and reinstall everything. Now of course, I knew I needed to back
all my files up, I just didn't know how. So what I did was just drag my
mom's home folder and my sister's home folder to my external hard
drive. After that I did the clean erase and install and wouldn't you
know, it was still slow. So I called them back and I got a guy who knew
what he was doing this time and he told me to unplug everything and
restart. BAM! It started going way faster. So anyway, I've been trying
to get my mom and my sisters email's back, but all the permissions are
way messed up! Whenever I try and open there "database" files with
Entourage 2004, I get a message saying, "Entourage cannot access your
data. To attempt to fix the problem, rebuild your database." I did the
rebuild twice and I still cannot access it. If anyone could help me it
would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

If you have re-installed office, have you re-applied all the updates? You
could be trying to access the database with a version of the programme older
than the version that last modified it.

Update office then in the Microsoft User Data folder, in the identities,
find the copy of the 'database' file that has been backed up before you
first tried the rebuild. Rename it back to 'database' and then try to start
entourage again.
