Entourage 'Can't rebuild database'

I had an email I couldn't delete (it kept crashing Entourage), then after a
while Entourage started to crash regularly. Now It won't start-up and says I
need to rebuild my database. This doesn't work on 'Typical Rebuild' and gets
halfway through ' Advanced Rebuild' and then crashes. I've effectively lost
access to my most recent contacts. Any idea what I can do to get them back?
