Entourage, change from short to long date format

Tipps

Using Entourage 2004 - I've gone into System Preferences | Date & Time
| Open International | Formats | Date Customize - I have Month Day Year

for Long and Short however I have not been able to get it to accept my
changes from short to long date format.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Good question. I get long dates in Finder but Entourage still shows
short, like 29/12/05. I want December or Dec. 29, 2005. Can someone
tell me if it is even possible to get long date format in Entourage
then I can stop beating my head against the wall.

Can someone tell me if this is an Entourage issue or a Mac setting?
Thanks

Entourage picks it's date format from the system settings. Except for the
'group' headers in the folder listing.

Hi there. I'm still trying to find an answer to my question tho - how
do I get the settings to change from the long date format to the short
date, ie 14-Mar-06 or Mar. 14, 06, etc?

Thanks

Yes, you can, if you're willing to make your short format resemble the
abbreviated or long format everywhere, not just in Entourage. In Tiger's
System Prefs/International/Formats, you can set Short Format to resemble
Abbreviated (Jan 5, 2006) or even long (without weekday name). Don't forget
to change the separators too ("/" to spaces and commas, etc.) Then that's
exactly how it will show up in Entourage too after you relaunch it.

Thanks for getting back to me. I don't have Tiger, it's Mac OS X. So
with that, why when I'm in International/Formats and change the short
format to the way I want it, does it not change it in Entourage? There
is no option to click on that says use short format.

I'm fine with short format everywhere and not just in Entourage. If
someone could just confirm that it is possible, then I know it's me and
not the restrictions of OS X.

You have to quit & restart entourage for the change in the system prefs to
be loaded.

I have done that, several times. If you could please tell me where, in
the short format settings, afger I've made the changes to the format,
do you indicate that you want short used instead of long, that would be
great. That is where I am stuck. I've tried this probably 10 times,
quit and re-started Entourage every time. There must be something I'm
missing. I'd send you a screenshot of what I've changed if that would
help.

Thanks again

Hi there, still waiting and hoping for a solution. I have Mac OX
10.3.9 if that's helpful info to anyone.

OS X 10.3.9 is Panther, OS X 10.4 is Tiger, the next version (paid upgrade).

I think this must be a Panther/Tiger difference. I'm in Panther, checked my
Sys Prefs, and don't see anything like what Paul suggested was there. The
Short Date format appears to be stuck on numbers separated by slashes, I see
no way to make it resemble Abbreviated.

Ah,, thanks for a reply that sheds some light on the problem. Anyone
out there know for sure if it is a limitation of Panther and that
therefore I can't change the date format to Nov. 11/06 from 11/11/06,
for example.

Thanks

It¹s not particular to OS X, but to Entourage (or rather, the way some
applications read the system¹s clock, apparently).

Entourage (and other Carbon apps) will sometimes only read one date format.
In Word, for example, you have the option of field codes to set the date and
time format; but apparently Entourage only reads the short date. Worse yet,
if you use the right preview-pane, messages older than a week will not
display the time, only the date.

While I don¹t miss all of Outlook¹s customization, I do wish the MacBU had
left this one in (if you use the bottom preview pane, the date and time are
displayed).
