Entourage "coffee breaks"

I run on an Intel MacBook Pro, and have a frustration with Entourage
(this happened on the PPC too, BTW). It occured via VPN, and now it
occurs through my https://owa.... connection to the Exchange server.
I'll be typing, and Entourage just stops processing my input, and I get
the dreaded spinning wheel for 5-20 seconds.

It happens a lot.

Besides going offline to type, which seems a very poor choice to have
to make, anyone have suggestions?

I've noticed similar behaviour but it has only occurred since connecting to
our newly installed exchange server (a couple of months ago). It only
happens (that I've been aware of) once or twice a day but as you say, it'll
freeze up for about 20 seconds. It doesn't happen during a sync with
Exchange.

It just happened to me a few minutes ago so I launched Activity monitor and
saw the Entourage Database Daemon running at 1.9% (of CPU) which is unusual.
After a few seconds, activity monitor labelled it as not responding although
after another 10 seconds, it finally came back to life and everything was
normal again (daemon active but running at 0%).

Yeah, I just posted the same observation on another thread about Entourage
stalling. I think this started after the recent QT 7.1 update and the
recent Security Update.

I'm running 10.4.6, Entourage 11.2.3, and everything is patched up.

Has anyone found a fix for this? It's a persistent problem with an
otherwise useful program.

Cheers,
DW

This problem started for me right after I upgraded to 11.2.3, which
totally TRASHED Entourage. And this is not the only problem. Rules stop
working, HTML mail takes forever to render, many crashes daily, total
stability "instability" where Entourage use to my most stable and
realiable piece of software ever. There are more and more with Office
2004. If my database wasn't so big and I have so much invested in
Entourage, I'd move to Thunderbird in a second. And you can't revert
since the updater altered the database.

If only M$ could come up with a patch that would revert the database to
be used again with 11.2.1, I'd be in seventh heaven. But yes, I dream.

I write M$ periodically, mostly after the 3-5 crashes daily to let them
know how brutally they screwed up. Hopefully they'll fix a lot of this
and make Entourage useful again. Sorry to say but as far as I am
concerned the "coffee break" is only a reflection of the developers.
They wanted to build a little of themselves into the application. One
of their better attributes.
