Hello,
I was reloading my Leopard disk (Archive and save) and after completion my
Entourage did not work. I found the program residing on my desktop. When I
put it back in the office folder it came back up. After playing around with
my identities I have all my mail back. I have not yet gotten my contacts
back. When I open my contacts folder ther is just the user name inside.
I have my Entourage up to version 11.4.0. I can go to my office 2004
identities folder and see my identity folder with Database, Mailing List,
Rules and Signature files inside and they all have some size. When I open a
new mail I have access to some of the contacts when I type the first letter
but there are lots of other names in my contacts folder.
Most Important!! Can anyone get me back to where I was before I reloaded
Leopard?
Nice To Know. Can anyone explain the names that come up when you type in
the first letters? How do they get there and can I manage them somehow? I
have some mistakes in there I would like to remove.
Thanks
John

Most of us don't do it, but it's always recommended to backup your data
before doing an "Archive & Install".

How Entourage application got on your desktop is a mystery. This sounds like
your Office install might be compromised. The missing contacts is another
matter. Do you have your other data (messages) or was it just your contacts
that was missing?

Your Entourage data is stored in your Microsoft User Data folder in
Documents.

This is going on your Most Recently Used file so it sounds like some data is
there.

That depends on how compromised your data is after the install.

First, make a backup of your Office 2004 Identities folder in the Finder.

Next, hold down Option key when launching Entourage to rebuild your
Identity. The rebuild might help, but because this problem involves the
system "Archive & Install" your data could be seriously corrupted and the
rebuild will fail.

My two cents on installing Leopard.

Leopard is a radical change in many ways from Tiger. I suggest installing
using "Erase & Install" and not 'Upgrade'. I also suggest installing your
applications from their CDs and not try dragging over from Tiger. Starting
with a clean environment gives the best results.

There are 3 types of installs:

1. Upgrade Mac OS X (the default upgrade method)*
2. Archive and Install
3. Erase and Install

* Just because it's the default doesn't mean it's the best option.

This page describes what each method does:
