Entourage Crashes on Intel

M

Marc Monaro

Hi gang!

Well... I just got my first Intel Mac in, and I don't know where to start!
It's like practically being in another world.

Entourage 2004 v10.2.5 in Tiger (Intel) 10.4.7 on a 2 x 2.66 ghz Dual-Core
Intel Xeon Mac, will not open at all.

Crashes immediately after the chime.

The crash log is all Greek to me so I figured I check with you guys.
Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

See this Apple Knowledge Base article for advice:

Did you install Office on the new machine, or did you have it copy over from
another machine? What about your home folder's Library? Was that copied
from the other machine? I suspect that doing so may lead to some issues; at
least, it seemed to in my case when I switched to a new Intel-based machine.
If so, you might want to try removing Office, re-installing, and re-applying
the updates.
1. Launch the Remove Office tool, located in HD/Applications/Microsoft
Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office.
2. Press the "Continue" button to locate currently installed copies of
Office.
3. Select the version(s) of Office that you want to remove, and press the
"Continue" button.
4. Choose what components you wish to remove. For a complete removal,
choose to "Remove the Office 2004 folder," "Remove the selected Office 2004
system files," and "Preferences."

When the removal is complete, you can then re-install Office 2004 from the
CD. Then, use Microsoft AutoUpdate to get the latest updates.

Try repairing permissions. For OS 10.2+:
Go to Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities. Open up Disk Utility. Select
your hard disk, then click the First Aid tab. Click the button to "Repair
Disk Permissions".

Hi Mickey!
Thanks for your response.

Before I start with your suggestions, I have a question pertaining to fonts.
We use a font manager (Extensis Font Reserve) which is not only server
based, but is also configured to remove all unwanted fonts from
system/library/fonts, library/fonts and users/user/library/fonts at the
users login. Our users do not have admin rights to their logins. Welcome to
the corporate world! The fonts removed by Font Reserve are then activated
globally from within the font manager.

As soon as I put back the fonts removed from sys/lib/fonts and removed them
from Font Reserve and restarted, Entourage opened successfully. And I tried
this from an admin and non-admin login. Both logins Entourage opened.

Do you know what font(s) within sys/lib/fonts Entourage, or Office 2004 for
that matter, needs or may be looking for? I have tried all combinations and
nothing seems to work. It's either all or nothing.
