Entourage crashes when viewing large emails

Wondering if this is a Entourage thing. When I get emails with a large
attachment (4MB), it often crashes when attempting to preview the email. I
also have a PC in my office with Outlook and am forced to use that to view
and open these emails.

Any idea what is happening, and if there is a setting to allow me to open
these emails. Because the app just crashes, tells me this is not a setting
thing.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

BTW, using the latest and greatest version/update of 2004, exchange 2003.

Try turning off your preview pane.

No.... Tried that and still crashes. This must be a bug in Entourage 2004,
since it opens fine in Outlook 2003 on a PC. Sort of sucks..... Who wants to
use a PC?

What do you mean "it still crashes" if you turn off your Preview Pane? Do
you mean when you double-click it to open it? Of course it does- that's the
same thing. It's the downloading that's causing a crash. But with Preview
Pane off, you can select it without crashing, then delete it, then empty the
Deleted Items folder.

Don't assume that it's a bug in Entourage. If you really have v11.2 or
later, it's probably not a bug at all. The fact that Outlook can open it on
a PC probably just means that the message has some corruption that Outlook
ignores. It's probably a bad thing that it opens in Outlook.

It does appear to be an Entourage bug. I was also able to open it up in
Apple Mail with no problems. The file itself is not corrupt. I'm running
11.2.4.

What sort of attachment is it? I wonder if it is a Quartz-created PDF which
might behave better in Mail. Entourage tries to display the first page of
the PDF, but I've seen it choke before on large ones.

Let us know what sort of large files it can't swallow.

It is a PDF, not sure what Quartz-created is. I can tell you that the file
was created by a pre-press dept. at printing company. Thx.

I've noticed that you are bouncing between opening and previewing. Which
does it have a problem with? If it having a problem previewing, just turn
off the preview pane and then open the file.

You can always save as to disk and see if that changes anything as well.
But, you'll have to be sure the preview pane is off first.
