Hi everyone.

I was wondering if one of you might be able to help me. I had microsoft entourage about six months ago, and between then and now, I have tried a few different e-mail programs. I have decided to go back to entourage after deciding it's the best. So, I have installed the microsoft office 2008 software on my machine, but now I am having all sorts of problems with it!

It constantly hangs. My deleted emails folder is rather full and I have been trying to permenantly delete the items contained therein. Every time I attempt this, the program hangs.

It then says I should run the database repair utility, which I have attempted, but even THAT seems to crash. Perhaps, I am not being patient enough with it.

Basically what I would like to know is, how can I fix this?

Let's look at your install. You mentioned you had tried Entourage in the
past and just recently did a re-install. How did you remove Office 2008 and
how did you do your re-install? Did you update to 12.1.5 after installing?
Depending on how you installed, it could be a font issue.

How much is in this Entourage Identity? What type of accounts? (POP, IMAP,
Exchange)

How much free space do you have on your drive?

I suspect that you will need to use "Remove Office" then reinstall Office
2008. Also go into the Library/Receipts and remove all packages that start
with Office2008.

/Application/Microsoft Office 2008/Additional Tools/Remove Office

Follow these steps to reinstall:

* Run "Remove Office"
* Remove packages in Library/Receipts that start with Office2008.
* Launch the Microsoft Autoupdater (MAU).To launch MAU, you can open any
Office application and select "Check for Updates" under Help in the Menu
bar. Once MAU is launched, select "Keep in Dock"
* Quit all Microsoft applications (Easy way: log out/in with Shift key down
to disable any startup items.) Be sure all applications are quit before
running updater. IMPORTANT
* Drag the Microsoft Office 2008 folder to the Trash.
* Empty Trash.
* Reinstall Office 2008 from your original installation disk.
* Restart
* Update to 12.1.0 (if you have a newer DVD you might only need the 12.1.5)
* Restart (restarting before you launch any app is important!)
* Update to 12.1.5
* Restart

Before opening Entourage for the first time, move the Microsoft User Data
folder to the desktop. Launch Entourage and let it create a new Main
Identity. Rename your old Identity in the Microsoft User Data folder on the
desktop to "Old Main" and drag it back into the Office 2008 Identities
folder. Switch Identities in Entourage and see if the old Identity still
gives you problems. If yes, then you will need to manually move into the
newly created blank Main.

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)
