Entourage data lost in system

Two days ago while cleaning up some of my files, I somehow changed
something on my account. My email account along with all the kept
emails in their folders, all my contacts, the calendar data and all my
saved web pages (favorites) are all gone.

I got my email account restored (Entourage with ComCast). However, my
old data is still missing.

I think it is all on the system, because I can find files that look
like it is the old emails and contacts. However, I have no clue how
to restore the info.

I am new to APPLE MAC. In my opinion, it looks like the system boots
up with a different user (although name is same). I have the same
password and everything. When the system did boot up and I noticed
the email account missing, the system (desktop) was completely
different as well.

Thanks: Mike

Hi Mike!

This could be one of several things.

Is your Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)? If so, did you possibly log
in with the Guest Account? The Guest Account is not for your use but for
others who are temporarily using your Mac. It does not save anything
(bookmarks, email, Desktop items, etc.). If that's what you've done then
everything has been lost.

Or have you possibly logged in with a different account? For a list of
accounts on your Mac go to Apple menu --> System Preferences... -->
Accounts. They will be listed on the left. You can switch to a different
account by selecting Apple menu --> Log Out... and then log in with a
different account.

Hope this helps!

Bill:

Did noot help, probably because my knowledge of MAC is low compared to
MS.

Anyway, I found my data (I think). Located as follows: starting at
the FINDER:

account name/account name/Library/Caches/Metadata/Microsoft/Entourage/
2004/Main Identity/contacts (or messages or events)/OT/OB/OM/OK/then
file names.

The file names (description) say they are pointers. So, not sure what
that means.

As for a database, still no luck there. Find a couple data bases.
Both are 18.1MB in size.

This is NOT your Entourage data. It's the Spotlight cache. It's incomplete,
but will have some data that can be salvaged if you don't find your
Identity.

The are pointing to your original files. Entourage stores all of your data a
database. This is in your Identity folder inside the Microsoft User Data
folder in Documents.

These are empty files. Just the basics for a new Identity. See your other
message "Entourage data lost in system" for complete details and help.

Backups are important but more so when you are a new user and the
possibility of newbie mistakes can be catastrophic. SuperDuper is highly
recommended by users for backup, but it hasn't released a Leopard version
yet.

SuperDuper! Is $27.95. I¹m not affiliated with the product. Just a satisfied
user. <http://www.shirt-pocket.com/>

That should have been "Lost all Entourage accounts after downloading the new
security update from apple????"
