Entourage Database File Size Limit

Jim Baker

Hi

My Entourage database file is about 1.96GB in size (four
years worth of emails). I've just started to lose
incoming mail. Rebuilding the DB does not recover them.
Does Entourage perhaps have a 2GB DBG file size limit?

Any advice appreciated (I'm going to archive the older
mails as start)!

Entourage 2001 does, yes. You haven't said which version you're using.
Entourage X's limit (at least from SR-1, v10.1 on), is 4 GB.

You're fortunate that you can still rebuild the database. being at the limit
is dangerous. Delete whatever you don't need and Empty Deleted Items.
Separate older and newer messages into separate mail folders, removing older
mail from the "special" folders: Inbox, Sent Items. Drag out the folders of
old mail to your desktop to make MBOX files there, then delete them from
Entourage. Get rid of at least half your mail this way - the more the
better. Then do a Typical Rebuild. If that doesn't get the database down to
less than 1 GB, get rid of more.

You can always drag MBOXes back if needed, or into a separate identity,
probably a better bet. Name your MBOX files with the folder name and the
dates they cover.
