entourage dissappearing act

I decided to perform just a bit of folder organization--nothing major.
Just a clean-up. Turned on computer last night and Entourage was devoid
of all my valuable emails--everything (account info, etc). Love my Mac,
but never had such a problem with windows..and it's very frustrating.
Can somebody offer advice on what has happened, and offer Mac-friendly
"how-to" to resolve the problem. I simply cannot understand how i can
lose info just with folder movements. I did read a post "where's my
data gone" but there simply isn't a simple explanation to what I assume
should be an easy "error."

Entourage expects the folder to be in your Documents folder. This is a
default of the application.

If you move the Microsoft User Data folder (also known as the MUD folder) in
your Documents folder, Entourage will create a new blank Identity. Inside
this folder is your Identity (named Main by default). All of your mail,
contacts, etc are stored here.
