Entourage doesn't run rules automatically

I use spam sieve to catch spam, but I've noticed it never catches any
messages automatically - but when I run the rule that it uses it
removes spam. I noticed that entourage didn't run other rules
automatically before spam sieve was installed either - but again, when
I run them manually they work. Am I missing something really obvious?
Can't find anything in 'help'. Thanks
