Entourage doesn't see internet connection

I have recently upgraded to Entourage 2004, and when I was on a
network things worked great. I have recently moved my computer home
and to a dial-up connection, but I can no longer send or recieve mail.
The program tries to dial the server everytime I hit send and recieve
but I already am connected to the internet. Internet connect comes up
and then says that it could not open the communication device. Mail
works fine and so did the old version of Entourage. Please Help.

I have exactly the same problem, my Entourage 2004 works fine from my
wireless broadband net at home but when I go to dial-up on the road it can't
see the modem connection. Browsers and other programs have no problem.
I looks like Entourage is ignoring the information from Internet Connect
about the change in connecting device.

I've had this problem too.

It was solved by 'rationalising' my internet connection settings - ie
getting rid of unused ones, and ensuring that the one that was going
to be used by Entourage was at the top of the list, ie default. This
solved it.

Prior to this I spent a fair amount of time on the phone to MS
support, and they had no idea about this problem (which didn't exist
in Ent X) so hopefully they will be onto it in an update.

Have you checked your port configuration (System Prefs > Network > Show -
Network Port Configuration) to make sure the modem port is checked and that
the ports are listed in the order of your preference?

Thanks Alan moving the modem port to the top of the list seemed to fix
my problem. I have been stressing about this for days and am greatly
appreciative of you help.

I tried rationalising the modems so I only got one and it's at the top
of the list, still no joy with mine. Also, it was working just fine
with two modems in list yesterday!
