Entourage downloading duplicate messages from POP server

I use POP to download my mail to entourage, and I have it set to leave a
copy of the message on the server for 15 days (in case I want to check mail
from a web browser when away from my computer). As a result, there are
constantly about 200+ messages on the server.

Every once in a while, Entourage "forgets" what messages I have downloaded,
and re-copies ALL the messages from the server to my inbox during a
send/receive.

Has anyone experienced this, and am I doing something to cause it?

I have the same problem, but worse - I have an enormous amount of spac on my
email server so I use it as a long-term back up. So, I have 1,2, sometimes 3
copies of the same message. What is odd is I have seen the email I replied to
and it is not on the server anymore, but rather a duplicate is on the server.
Any news you have received on this will be helpful. I am seriously
considering MAC Mail or Thuderbird mail - you?
