Entourage downloading emails slowly.... very slowly

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

Each time i open Entourage to check on my emails i find lately that it downloads them slowly and it could be a while before they are all downloaded..... Why??? Please help.... Richard....

Speed is determined by the size of the messages, the number of messages
you have and the speed of your Internet connection.

Speed is also in the eye of the beholder. What is "slowly"?
