Entourage dumping to Local Inbox

K

I rebuilt my iBook last week and when I reinstalled Entourage 2004 and
set it up to connect to my Exchange server, it started sucking all my
server mail down to the local Inbox on my computer! What is going on
here? And, why is there no setting to change or override this?

The weird thing is that it isn't taking all messages off the server!
What is most aggravating, though, is that it has stripped messages out
of their sorting folders on the server and dumped them ALL into my
local Inbox! That just ain't right!

Cheers,
Anthony

I second this one. This just started happening to me late last week. I just
recently got the Microsoft update to Office '04, but that's all that
changed, and I did that more than a week before this started happening.

This is a very annoying development.

I just discovered more related to this issue. I tried both forwarding and
replying to messages that were dumped to my local inbox and Entourage
refuses to send them saying the server cannot be found.

Here's another update...

Last night I received four e-mails from the same person, within a couple of
minutes of each other. Three remained in my Exchange inbox and one got
dumped onto my local computer inbox.

My sister sent me an e-mail, which stayed in my Exchange inbox. I replied
and she replied to my reply, which ended up in my local inbox.

I can find no pattern to this annoyance and wish someone would post a fix.

It sounds like you setup a POP account, which automatically downloads all of
your from the server. Your create an IMAP account. Remove the incoming
server name on your pop account so that no new mail arrives while you are
setting up your IMAP account. Once your IMAP account is set up, move your
mail back to the server(IMAP account).

I¹m having the same issue. Only e-mails address directly to me get dumped
into my local inbox.

This doesn't solve my problem. I have an Exchange account, which is dumping
seemingly random messages into my local inbox. My exchange account has no
POP setup. I have a separate account (local ISP) setup in POP, but that has
nothing to do with my exchange account and won't even work while I'm hooked
up to the VPN.

And, over the course of the last week, more and more messages are going
local rather than staying on the exchange server. It used to be four or five
in my local inbox and 30 on the exchange server, now it's reverse.

When the messages are dumped to my local inbox, the exchange server moves
them into the deleted folder, leaving them unread.

This is becoming more and more of a nuisance...

Please!

Thanks for the suggestion.

I followed it, and the problem got worse!

When Entourage downloaded my headers from the Exchange server, it left half
in my Exchange in box and dumped half of them into my local inbox. Now I
have to move all of them back on to the Exchange server again.

When Entourage moves the message into the local inbox I've noticed that they
are moved (unread) into the Deleted Items folder on the server.

The SP1 update must be doing something really strange with the connection
with Exchange servers...

Can someone please help with this?

this is so fustrating, I have been having this problem and reported it
here months ago. seems like it is a dirty little secret that this is a
POS. Well at least on Linux I can use Evolution with the exchange connector.
