I'm running an iMac G3 and the latest tiger update. Something happened
with Entourage 2004 and now get a message saying "Entourage has
encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the
inconvenience".
I cannot even launch Entourage now. It gets to the main screen and then
the message comes up. I've uninstalled Office 2004 a couple of times
and reinstalled it with the same message. I can however, run Entourage
X the previous version OK. Cannot figure out why Entourage 2004 won't
work anymore. Yet the other Office 2004 programs run fine. The
problem is just Entourage.
Any help would be appreciated because the only other alternative I can
see is completely reformatting my hard drive and I really don't want to
do that if I don't have to.
First test Entourage in a new User. Go to System Preferences and create a
new test user. See if Entourage opens there. If yes, then it's a problem in
your Users account. If not, skip down to if the problem is in your user's
folder.
========================
If the problem is in the new user......... Run "Remove Office" located in
the Office 2004 --> Additional Tools folder" then apply the updates in this
order:
11.3.0. (This update includes all of the improvements released in all
previous Office 2004 updates.)
11.3.2 Update

If problems continue.... Seemingly unrelated is an Apple OS update. You
might need to download the combo updater from Apple and run it again rather
than using Software Update. Doing so overwrites potentially problem-causing
files. Several users have reported this fixed some odd problems they were
having with Entourage.

Still have problems....do an Archive and Install of the OS.
===============================
If the problem is in your user's folder...
1. Check your Startup Items in System Preferences. If there is more than
one Microsoft Database daemon listed, delete all and let Entourage create a
new one.
2. Delete preferences in ~/Library/Preferences/:
com.microsoft.OfficeNotifications.plist
com.microsoft.DatabaseDaemon.plist
com.microsoft.Entourage.plist
Microsoft/Entourage Preferences
3..Try Rebuilding your Entourage database. Be sure to quit all Office
applications including Notifications and/or Microsoft Database daemon.
Either remove Entourage preferences to test for corruption or test in a new
User.
Run "Remove Office" located in the Office 2004 --> Additional Tools folder"
then apply the updates in this order:
11.3.0. (This update includes all of the improvements released in all
previous Office 2004 updates.)
11.3.2 Update

Hopefully, you will be up and running. If not, it could be a fonts issue.
That's for another day.
