Entourage - Exchange - Calendaring

We use Entourage to connect to our Exchange 2003 server for email, contacts,
calendaring etc. Recently we've had clients complain that when they post
something on someone else's calendar it doesn't show up for anyone else.
Well of course the reason it only shows up for them is because Entourage
hasn't synced with the Exchange server yet...at least not successfully.
After checking the log on Entourage it says:

Could not synchronize record: test to Exchange server: <other exchange
account name>

We have found a work around for the time being where if the person creating
the appointment changes the status to 'free' instead of busy or
out-of-office etc. it works. This seems to have just started happening
recently. We have also found that if you make the person who is trying to
create an appointment on your calendar a 'delegate' it will work.

Does anyone know what caused this to start happening and a better work
around than the previous two I mentioned, or even if Microsoft knows about
this and there might be a possible fix on its way?

Thanks

Mark and all,

I don't know if I have a similar problem (sorry I did not understand
your question, I am new at MS Entourage), but in my case on my mac
(entourage) it doesn't give me ANY information if the people invited
are busy/tentatively budy etc. Am I doing something wrong or is this a
common problem with Entourage? I thought I could completely ditch the
PC but I am not able to do so because of this.

We are also on Microsoft Exchange server, and everything (calendar
events, mail ) syncs well except for this problem.

A co-worker of mine found this article

http://www.macwindows.com/entourage.html#071006b

This is the part that I'd like to highlight:
---------
Ever since we applied the last security patch to Exchange in late June,
Entourage users who had been granted "Editor" (write) permission to other
shared Exchange calendars no longer are able to update events on the shared
Exchange calendar properly (unable to sync).

I have since determined the following:

1) Entourage users currently can NOT place calendar events marked as "busy"
on a shared calendar if the event is in the current month (July) or the
following two months (August and September).

2) Events marked as "busy" CAN be synced to the shared Exchange calendar if
the events being added/updated are in the past (before July) or more than
two months in the future (October or beyond).

3) If an event is marked "free" using the Options toolbar button when adding
the event, it can be added to the shared Exchange calendar regardless of its
date.

It appears there is an access permission problem related to the update of
the free/busy database used by Exchange with the latest Exchange security
update in place. We have a clustered front/backend Exchange environment. We
were not able to replicate the problem in our test Exchange environment
which is non-clustered front/back end.

Workaround: We have determined Entourage users can access a shared Exchange
calendar if delegation is used to grant access rather than just sharing
permission setting.
