Entourage Exporting Extra "Phantom" Contacts

I am trying to export my contacts to a tab delimited Excel file so that I
can upload them to a website. For some reason the export includes numerous
(~600) extra contacts. Most of these are duplicates and/or ³old² versions
of existing contacts. I have rebuilt the database (I do not use Exchange
anymore) but the problem remains. I can not find the duplicates using
Spotlight or the Advanced Search tool. Any ideas where they are coming from
and how to fix this?

Thanks,
DeWayne

I¹ve noticed the same problem, and it was with an an identity that had an
Exchange account, so I think it's a bug with the export feature where it's
grabbing records that have been marked as deleted. I think it cleared up
when I performed a "compact" in addition to a rebuild, as compacting removes
deleted records to recover space.

Alternately, you can create a new identity and start fresh. Of course, with
Exchange that's easy -- just create the new identity, add the Exchange
account and re-download everything from the server. But if you're using
Tiger and 11.2.3, you can do the same thing pretty quickly with Sync
Services. If your Entourage contacts are synced with Apple Address Book via
Sync Services, then you will have the option when you create the new
identity to replace your Entourage contacts with Sync Services (Address
Book) contacts. You can use the Export and Import feature of Entourage for
the rest of your data -- tasks, notes, and calendar events.

I deleted the old, unused Exchange account from my Account List (it had no
records in it nor did it appear in the Main Screen Pane) and compacted then
rebuilt the database. Problem still exists where I only show 1240 contacts
in the Entourage view and yet Entourage exports 1635 contacts when I do the
export. I guess I will backup my database and then delete all contacts then
have Sync Services import the contacts from Address Book.

Strange problem.
