Entourage for Exchange Server and Sent Items

D

David Murrin

I recently tried the Exchange update to Entourage after using IMAP for
7 months with no problems. (except having to do without calendar sync
to my PC friends in our company)

Now I have the Exchange set up within Entourage and everything seems
to be working but one thing. Wenever I compose a new email and send
it, it is not saved in my SENT ITEMS folder. If I reply to an email,
the reply IS saved in my SENT ITEMS folder. I've gone under the "Mail
& News Preferences" and checked the box next to "Save copies of sent
messages to the Sent Items folder" but it still will not put new
composed messages in the sent items folder.

I still have the old IMAP account running, and when i activate it, it
puts all my outgoing messages in the SENT ITEMS folder without a
problem.

Is anyone else having this same problem?

That's why. The SENT ITEMS folder referred to in the Prefs is the _local_
Sent Items folder, not the server's Sent Items folder. With regular IMAP
accounts, you can set the folder to be the IMAP Sent Items folder in the
Advanced pane of Tools/Accounts/Mail/that account. For Exchange, that seems
to be the enforced default - there's no way to change it. (Why would you
want to? One of the conveniences of IMAP is being able to access server
folders from anywhere. Perhaps they do server "maintenance" without asking
your permission?)

You can save to local Sent Items this way: Go to Tools/Rules/Outgoing and
make a rule for <All messages> or for <Account Is ExchangeAcct> to

<Copy message to Sent Items>

You could do Move instead of Copy if you really want to get the messages off
the server.
I still have the old IMAP account running, and when i activate it, it
puts all my outgoing messages in the SENT ITEMS folder without a
problem.

Is anyone else having this same problem?
