entourage format toolbar

Even when I highlight a segment of text, the format toolbar
is still not active not allowing me to make any changes in
font, size etc...
any idea how to activate it?

Are you selecting Reply first?

Click the button at the far right to trun on HTML, or choose HTML at the top
of the Format menu.

You can set HTML to be your default in the Preferences.
