Entourage freezes on "Quit" in Panther

Ever since I upgraded to Panther, Entourage freezes when trying to quit
program. The window disappears but the "title" bar still shows
Entourage. The program also still shows open in the dock indicated by
the small arrow pinting to it's icon. Sometimes the computer can end
the program on shutdown and sometimes it can't, which it then
requires me to "force quit" the program. Has anyone else noticed this
problem since upgrading to Panther? Has anyone heard of an Apple or
Microsoft fix?

It's not a conflict between Entourage X and Panther.

Have you upgraded Entourage to the latest version? What about Panther? Are
you running 10.3.2?

Current Version and Build number for Entourage X

Entourage X 10.1.4 (030702)

I suggest running Repair Permissions. If you continue to have problems then
use Remove Office. You will need to reinstall from the CD and update.

To use Repair Permissions:
* Open Disk Utility in your Applications/Utility folder.
* Click on the First Aid tab and select Repair Permissions
* Click on the icon for your boot volume.
* Click the repair permissions button.

Don't run from CD as updates have a newer version of Repair Permissions.

Run Repair Permissions from the volume being repaired.

======
"Remove Office" is located in the Value Pack folder on the Office X CD.
You'll need your CD key when you install.

You need three updaters: Office 10.1.2 Office 10.1.4 Office 10.1.5

Diane,
I was at both most recent versions of Panther and Entourage. I did as
you said and repaired permissions but that did not fix the problem. I
then removed Office as instructed and re-installed with the appropriate
updates. It takes 1 full minute for the program to close after it
"appears" like it's closed. 1 of 3 times the title bar remained showing
Entourage. I was tempted to stop at Entourage update 10.1.2 because
it responded like it used to in Jaguar. Have you heard of any similar
cases? Just in case it helps, I have the following system:
Power Mac G4 Dual 1.25 w 1.75GB RAM
Super & Combo drives
Sonnet Tempo Trio card (for future USB 2.0 equip)

Thoughts....

Are you using IMAP or Exchange?
Is there a schedule that occurs at quit?

This is usually a firewall issue - the Product Identification checker
listens to see if any copies of Office try to start up on the same network.
If the port is blocked, when you quit the Office app it will wait until it
gets a TCP time out, which can take up to a minute. If your firewall is
configured to block ports 3000-4000 this can be the effect.

I turned off Port 3031 protection in Norton Firewall but still got the
same delayed result. I use Entourage for my personal email and it's a
POP account on high speed cable broadband. The alternative on the
maxoshints site seem a little over the top. I'm tempted to revert back
to Office X update 10.1.2. I'm the only one using this computer so it
seems like it shouldn't take so long to check for other running copies.

Hmmmm....Have you tried just quitting Norton Firewall to test?

Try this... Create a new User in System Preferences. Open Entourage and
close. If you are still having problems it's something at the system level
of your computer. If you have updated, your problem is not checking for
other copies.
