Hello,
Ent-04 11.1.0 (040913)
Mac 10.3.7
800 mhz tiPB, 512 MB
This problem started a few days ago. Prior to that, no problems or issues
worth noting. This seems to have come out of the blue. I can recall no
inciting event.
I have a three pane email window. When the problem first reared, it seemed
as though clicking on ANY email message in pane two caused Ent to freeze,
requiring a force-quit (FQ).
I could relaunch Ent, but again, clicking ANY message would cause a hang/FQ.
I assumed a corrupted DB so rebuilt.
At this point things got a little weird. I won't swear that before this
point clicking on ANY email caused a hang, but I think that was the case. At
this point, I could click on some w/o a hang, but many others would cause a
hang.
However, if I did a multi-item select, I could then Delete messages, sort
of. The delete operation would complete then hang, such that after FQ and
relaunch, the messages were in the Deleted Items folder, which could be
emptied.
So, I went through A LOT of old messages to see which ones would hang Ent,
and which wouldn't. For those that did, I'd try different methods of
multi-select/delete.
Every so often I'd rebuild the DB.
I got to the point where none of my old messages would cause a hang.
Rebuilt, again, and thought I was done.
For a short while no new incoming messages triggered the hang, but now, some
are.
For my personal email account, I changed the setting to keep messages on the
server, so I can view them on a web browser. (I don't have that option for
my work email account.)
I can't figure out what's up.
I've rebuilt permissions. I've run MicroMat Disk 10.
I've analyzed the processes in Activity Monitor. (When Ent hangs, it is very
CPU intensive, but not disk intensive.)
For a moment I thought it was emails with attachments that caused the
problem, but that's not it.
I'm open to any diagnostic ideas that anyone has.
Oh, please, this is killing me slowly.
