With Mac OS 10.3.9 and Entourage 11.2.2 I frequently see the beach ball and
have to wait for Entourage to complete what it's doing. When I have
Activity Monitor launched it eventually says in red Entourage (Hung). Even
though Entourage is hung the daemon still comes and goes in the monitor.
Clearly this happens after I've deleted or moved messages, so there is some
kind of cleanup process going on. After a period of maybe 30s it comes back
and works fine. Of course, this can get very annoying when I've got to wait
in the middle of writing something. Everything else running on the machine
is fine, but Entourage is hung. I know there have been previous discussions
about Spotlight causing a problem for 10.4, but I haven't gotten to 10.4
yet. I'm also on a 500MHz G4 Cube.
