Entourage Inbox Synch w/Exchange

Is anyone aware of a way to modify or set a standard
inbox syync w/exchange? I have users complaining of
waiting for new mail to come in and not being able to
have the inbox sync on demand. Seems Entourage has no
set time and does it when ever it feels like it. I read
an article about changing live update on the exchange
server (MACFIXIT.com), but do not understand what was
meant by that.

""Entourage 2004 appears to have an undocumented,
uncontrollable sync interval for Exchange accounts. It is
absolutely, positively not a true "live sync" like an
IMAP account. I set up two accounts, one Exchange, one
IMAP (same Exchange server) and monitored them side by
side. Messages show up in the Exchange account anywhere
from 30 seconds to 2 minutes after than they show up in
the IMAP account. In fact, I sometimes get messages in my
Blackberry (!) before they appear in my Exchange inbox.
The interval for syncing cannot be edited, and a sync
cannot be forced. Entourage does not even immediately
sync upon launching the program; you have to wait about a
minute for it start. A sync can also not be interrupted
once it begins. Entourage also does not sync more than
one Exchange folder at the same time. For example, it
will not update the Inbox while it is also updating Sent
Items. Periodically, Entourage gets stalled and needs to
be re-launched in order to get things moving again.

Here is the technical explanation, according to
Microsoft, for what is happening:

"Entourage subscribes to be notified via UDP when new
messages arrive. Some network topologies may not allow
UDP packets between the server and the client machine, in
which case we poll every few minutes"

I am the one who wrote into MacFixit about this. My IT guy says the
explanation offered my Micrsoft is baloney. We have UDP set up. When
inside the firewall, it's pretty quick, but still much slower than setting
up as IMAP and nowhere near as fast as a PC (which is to be expected since
we have to download a local copy of a message, whereas a PC using Outlook
simply "sees" the message on the server. Since calendar and contact sync do
not work fo me either (my contacts were wiped out and calendar items are
duplicated hundreds of times), I tried IMAP. Unfortunately, IMAP
connections to Exchange now have a major problem with duplicate messages.

It's ridiculous, but there is no way to change it or fix it.

Hi Greg!
I was just wondering... Did you ever figure out why contacts and calendar
items get duplicated?
We seem to be having the same problem. No one here, yet, has been able to
shed some light on this issue.
I'm afraid to give Entourage to a few of my executives who live and breath
calendar and contacts!

Thanks!

Thanks Greg. As far as calender and contact sync, we had
the same issue and I did find the solution working with
microsoft. It was related to the default website for
OWA. It was a while ago and I do not remember the fix
though I did post it. Some check box was not checked.
Once I checked it everything worked. I will try to find
info and post again.
I guess there is no way to change timing.

Here is the fix that work for our site:
Tip: On the exchange server IIS interface. Make sure in properties of the
default web site, on the Web Site tab, "HTTP keep- alives enabled" is checked.
Once this is done, all Entourage clients free/busy info is updated and can
schedule appointments seeing user data on exchange.

Once I enabled and restarted site everything worked.
Hope this helps you.
