Entourage is Auto Deleting All my Email!!!!

B

Entourage just started acting very dangerously for me. When I receive
a new email (from my IMAP account) Entourage downloads it, then deletes
it and hides it from my view. If I did not have the notification set
to give me a pop up on incoming messages I would never have noticed
this. I have confirmed the deletions by checking my webmail version of
this account and all of my messages are being marked for deletion by
entourage upon receipt.

I have junk mail filtering off.
I have only one rule and this checks for a spamassassin header and at a
certain value moves the message to the junk folder on my computer.

Further complicating things is the fact that suddenly no emails are
visible that are associated with Project Center mail folders unless I
am actually in the Project Center (meaning the project email folders in
the Mail pane contain nothing).

Please, please help!

Thanks,
Brian

Check to see if a Mailing List Manager entry has accidentally been created
with the default settings, which will move the email to the inbox under 'on
my computer (your local folders, not on the server)

These MLM entries are all to easy to create when marking a item of mail as
'not junk' - the resultant dialog is rather confusing and allows for
creation of an MLM entry that could have the symptoms you describe.

The Entourage User's WebLog has moved!

Thanks for the pointer, but that doesn't seem to be the problem - there
is nothing in the MLM.

I did just notice something. It appears that while the email is
getting deleted from the server's inbox it is getting moved to the
folders in my "mail views" section. No notice that new mail is in any
of these folders. I just stumbled on the new mail that happens to be in
them.

All I want is to get Entourage back to the way it was. I just want my
new mail to come to my inbox and the spam (according to my rule) to be
peeled off.

I think I may need to switch back to mail.

The 'mail views' are not folders as such, but custom views that can span
several folders - rather like 'saved searches'.

This seems to indicate the messages are being retained, but moved into
another folder. The trick is to find out which folder!

Using one of the custom views which show the message, make sure the listing
in that custom view is set to show 'folder' and this may give you a clue
where the message has ended up, which may, in turn, offer a clue as to how
it got there.

The only ways a message gests moved in Entourage (apart from manually) is
via rules, the Junk Mail Filter, the Mailing List Manager or with a script
(which could be triggered by a rule or a schedule). Check out these
possibilities.

Thank you for your help. I am still not sure why, but the rule I had
for spam (using a header in the mail created by spamassassin) was
causing the problem. Now that it is turned off, it looks like things
me be back to normal.

Thanks again,
Brian

Glad you got it sorted :)
