entourage is marking mails as deleted as they come in

Email Client: imap

I'm moving to IMAP from being a long time POP user. I have lots of folders and lots of rules, keeping my 5gbs of emails organized. I've just finished migrating them all and am now learning to work with it.

With one of my mailboxes/folders, I see mail come in with a strike through it, marked for deletion before I've even read it. Sometimes it will even disappear entirely before I see it. I only know they exist because I have another client (Mail) looking at the files, too, and they behave just fine there. I don't want to use Mail, I want Entourage to behave properly.

Any ideas what setting I might have wrong? I have it set to mark deleted messages but not move them, but far from that, it is deleting them as they come in. I dont know if it is every message, as there have only been a few received for that folder so far, but it isn't consistent.

thanks,

amy

Check the Rules and the Mailing List manager. It might be set to send
the folder to the wrong location.

It could also be set to send the e-mails to a folder On My Computer (in
which case, it is copied there and the original is sent to the trash for
the IMAP account),

Nope, checked and doublechecked all the rules. The only one acting on that folder moves the message to that subfolder and that's it. Nothing else.

There are no personal folders in my On My Computer thing at all. Not even sure what it's function is. Everything seems to be in the imap folders.

This is really confusing. There are no other actions I can find. Is there anywhere I should be looking for a setting that manages this? I've only modified the rules (imap tab) and nothing else as far as handling.

Did you make sure that the subfolder is indeed within the IMAP hierarchy
and not in the On My Computer section?? That would explain the whole
situation (messages are copied On My Computer and the original is
deleted).

Yes, I'm sure. There are no personal folders in the On My Computer section, and the folders that *are* there (just inbox, drafts, trash, etc) have no mail in them at all. The only folders that have anything in them at all are the ones I set up for IMAP.

Also, all the other rules I set up seem to be working without this deletion thing. I tried putting this specific rule first in case something below was the problem (though I made them all and they're all very simple moves to folders, nothing more) and still the deletion problem. Then I turned off all rules, thinking that would just put all those tagged mails in my inbox with the rest of the mail and now, new problem, *none of that mail is coming through.* Not in their respective folders, not in the inbox. I have confirmed that mail did get sent and should be here.

So what gives? Server side problem?

Either way, once I figure out where these mails are now, still, the only ones that get marked for deletion are certain ones, not all the mail that have rules attached to them.

Could it be that settings just don't stick well? I also notice that every time I reply, it sends from the default address, even though I have that setting unchecked, and have checked and unchecked it to be sure it toggles. No dice. It doesn't send from the address it received to.

So I'm concluding that settings just don't do as they say they will? I still don't know what setting I could have set wrong to make some mails mark as deleted, though.

Any new thoughts? Uninstall/reinstall? Brand new computer, brand new installation, happened immediately, fyi.

Could be. A rule there as well (some servers support server-side rules).
It could be the Junk Mail filter too.

That really looks like there is some filtering going on.
For server side issues, you could leave Entourae off and use webmail (if
you have that option) to see if new mail gets redirected to the trash.

You can always try rebuilding your database.
