Entourage Junk Mail filter has taken over my mail. Help!

I started using Entourage's junk mail filter as an attempt to get rid
of a stream of irritating spam/virus mail purportedly from Microsoft.
It didn't help. It only labeled the mails as junk, but it didn't do
anything.

So I increased the level of junk mail rigor using the slider provided
in Entourage. Then I found that many of my incoming mails originating
from mailing lists were disappearing into the Trash. I added the name
of the domain originating these mails to the list of exceptions, but
that didn't help. They continued to be moved to the Trash folder. I
then tried to move selected items from the Trash to the INBOX, but
they keep popping back to the Trash.

Next, I turned off the junk mail filter altogether.

Surprise: the filter is like the Sorcerer's Apprentice. It continues
to do nasty things to my mail even though I have killed it.

How can I stop the Junk Mail Filter? How can I get it to behave as
advertised?

You have to create a rule to move the mail. Microsoft is not permitted by
law to dispose of any mail, just label it. This is a result of a lawsuit a
few years ago by "Blue Mountain Arts", a company that makes singing emails
and similar items. Consequently, you have to do the rest.

Do you use the Mailing List Manager for your lists? Do you add the email
address to your address book?

The JMF never assigns messages from contacts in your Address Book to the
Junk category.

Your starting place to learn about the Mailing List Manager, Junk Mail
Filter and Rules...

FYI, I got rid of the stream of MS related mail by going to my ISP,
sbcglobal.net and adding one filter. The filter sends anything with .exe
in the body to the trash. It worked... I have not seen another message.
filering on the address or subject is a big time waster as the spammer
is pretty good with changing addresses. If you own a Mac you do not need
and should care less about trashing .exe messages.

It worked for me....hope your ISP will let you add filters.

My apologies for having posted the original twice, but I did not see
my original listed...

I have learned how to write rules and have written some which should
at least allow my desired mails to end up in my INBOX.

My problem now is that these rules seem to be ignored by the ZOMBIE
JMF. I have turned it off and I can still watch mails in my INBOX
disappear into the Trash folder as I select them for reading, one by
one. This applies to mails which meet the criteria for a rule whose
action is "change status: not junk mail

How can I kill the ZOMBIE?

Uncheck all your rules. If the JMF still moves mail to the trash, let us
know. I suspect it's one of your rules.
