Entourage locks up after deleting address book, can't do clean install

Just started running Entourage 9.0 (from MS Office 2001 set) on a
stock Cube with OS 9.2.2. Was trying to use it to deal with an
unresolved emailing issue with Outlook Express 5.02, where I could not
send an email to a very large group (1600 contacts), although emails
to a somewhat smaller but still big group (700 contacts) went through
fine.

Set up Entourage and imported my contacts, which worked fine, groups
and all. Went to send the offending email and got a 5500 network
error. Tried to run a script to split up my emails into packets of 20
recipients each, and somehow lost 500 of the contacts in my 700
contact list. Tried to reimport the full contact list and ended up
with duplicates of everything. Selected and deleted all, and
Entourage got annoyed and said I had gone past the end of the file.
Now Entourage locks up if I try to access the address book.
Uninstalled Office 2001 and rebuilt desktop, reinstalled Office,
opened Entourage--and it was just as I had left it, with the unsent
email in drafts and the locking problem with the address book.

Does anyone have any idea how I can truly wipe Entourage and do a
clean install? I still have all my contacts in Outlook Express, so if
I can start fresh with Entourage and import them again... well, I
probably still can't send any mail! But OE isn't working either. I'm
tempted to just enter the lot of them by hand into Communicator, which
all these years later remains a workhorse. Can't seem to find a way
to import 'em into Communicator.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Just delete the Office X Identities folder from your Microsoft User Data
folder.

Just delete the Office X Identities folder from your Microsoft User Data
folder.

I hate to correct Dave on any entourage related issues, but his answer is
incomplete!

Removing the Office X Identities folder will remove all your data, but will
retain all your preferences.

If you really want to start with a clean slate, run the 'Remove Office'
utility on the installation CD as well as removing the identity folder. This
will remove all traces of entourage and allow you to reinstall from scratch.
You should save any custom templates and custom spelling dictionaries for
the other office apps first, as these will be deleted as well. Also, don't
forget to apply th eupdaters after re-installing.

Barry (and anyone else), feel free to correct me at any time if I'm wrong or
incomplete. I may know a lot about Entourage, but that doesn't mean I'm
always right.
