Entourage locks up when sync with Exchange

A week ago I upgraded to 2008 from 2004. everything went well including email transfer. My email is connected to our company exchange server (via web) and at first (about 4 days) everything worked well including synchronization. However a few days ago I started getting the beachball wheel during sync which locks me out from entourage for several mins at a time. Each time I send or move an email the sync locks me out making it unusable. The only way I can work now is when off line and it's a big problem.
I have checked the database & even rebuilt it, but no improvement. I have even deleted all my projects as I read on a forum this could be the problem, but still no change.
Does anyone have any ideas as it's a real pain??

You're connecting via Outlook Web Access (OWA) but are you within your
company network along with the Exchange Servers? Then you should be
connecting directly to the back-end sever that stores your account.
Performance will be much better.

Bill,
Thanks for the reply. You are correct I am currently connecting via the OWA connection. I do this because I use a Macbook and operate both inside &amp; outside the company firewall.
Actually this weekend as the sync had become so slow and entourage had become unusable, in desperation I did a complete reinstallation of Office. I'm pleased to say it seems to have cured the problem.
I've been running all day with no issues at all. I conclude that something had become messed up either in the email database or in Entourage. Fingers crossed the issue is permanently resolved.
Anyway, thanks for answering my posting.
