Entourage:Mac 08 and Windows Live Hotmail - What's the Key?

I've had Hotmail for ten years+ - Full Windows Live Account, 8 character password (?) using about 7% of the available mailbox.

I have 16 personal subfolders, some are used for storage and some hold automatically sorted incoming mail that are cleared out regularly.

Sometimes I check these from a public machine on web-based Hotmail (traveling, short trips) and sometimes from my big Intel iMac or my MacBook (traveling, long trips) - both loaded with Entourage 08, but not attached to Hotmail, see below.

I would use web Hotmail all the time except mail can't be sorted by any field for filing or clearing - you understand. Not Sender nor Conversation nor anything.

Every time I try to add Windows Live to the new Entourage:Mac 08

1. Entourage loads the subfolder list
2. Entourage starts filling the folders with mail, exactly as matching the server Hotmail account.
3. Entourage then deletes all or some of the mail in the subfolder.
4. A check on Hotmail shows it's has deleted the same mail into the server Deleted folder and I can only save it by manually moving it again using web Hotmail.

The way I figure - the sooner Mac Mail or Entourage can find a way to sort and manage Hotmail, the sooner I lock in to that application.

And I know it's old fashioned but I'm kinda fond of my Hotmail and it would be a hassle to convert.

Thanks.

I don't have a Hotmail account to check, but open your account under Tools
--> Accounts. Click on the Options tab. Do you have leave on server checked?

Note: When you do an advanced rebuild of the database, Entourage removes
all of your Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP), Hotmail, and News messages
from the local cache. Download these messages again from the server, and
then reset your folder column preferences for these message folders.
Re-enter your settings for your news and mail schedules, and then update any
rules that copy or move messages into IMAP or Hotmail folders. Note that
pictures that were attached to contacts in your Address Book are lost.

Thanks Diane,

The new Entourage does not give any options for mail handling, the only option is signature.

Also the new Entourage does not give any options to right click clear cache.

I've just discovered it does however on top of the other issues - take all the Hotmail from every subfolder on the Hotmail server and dump it unsorted into the main Entourage Inbox, before doing the delete on the Hotmail server. i.e. it unsorts. Ack!

Do you mean that I have to reproduce every version of the mail sorting rules in every copy of Entourage on every machine. And it un-sorts and re-sorts every time.

I think I'll keep it offline for a while.

Try option-command-L. It does an (undocumented) "special" IMAP refresh.

If I had an Account, I could check it out, but alais I don't. You'll have to
wait for another user to help out with this that has an account.
